ARMY CORRESPONDENCE

Head Quarters, Camp Giddings.

Jefferson, Ohio, Dec. 2,1861

To The Editor of The Sentinel.

A few days more and the 29th regiment, which contains many husbands, fathers, and sons of your readers, will have left Camp Giddings and Ashtabula county, (some of them probably not to return,) for the field of action, to put into execution what some of us have been learning during our short sojourn here in camp. There has been much activity in camp during the past few days, preparatory to leaving. The election has taken place and our regiment is officered as follows:

Colonel—Lewis P. Buckley, Akron, Ohio;

Lieut. Colonel—Thomas Clark, Cleveland, Ohio, elected by acclamation, no dissenting voice.

Major—No choice at election, neither candidate receiving a majority.

Adjutant—C. T. Chaffee, Jefferson, Ohio.

Quartermaster—O. F. Gibbs, Harpersfield, Ashtabula county, Ohio;

Chaplain—R. H. Hurlburt, Hartsgrove, Ashtabula county, Ohio;

Surgeon—Dr. A. K. Fifield, Conneaut, Ohio;

Assistant Surgeon—D. S. S. Burrows, Geneva, Ashtabula County, Ohio;

Commissary—Henry Wright, Trumbull, Ashtabula county, Ohio;

Sergeant Major—W. P. Williamson, Akron, Ohio;

Quartmaster’s Sergeant—M. D. Norris, Mesopotamia, Ohio;

On the27th the Regiment was presented with a beautiful stand of colors, by the ladies of Ashtabula and Summit counties; and ladies, we think you have placed them in good hands. We pledge you to so take care of and sustain them in camp, upon the field of battle, and in the rebel country as becometh your sons and brothers—free men of the United States—the land of the free and the home of the brave.
