Orwell Company Of The 6th Ohio Cavalry 24 Nov 1861

The following letter from Capt. Bingham, of the Orwell company of Cavalry, contains some useful hints that we commend to our friends in the county, as worthy of notice.

Camp Hutchins, Nov. 24, 1861.

To The Editor Of The Sentinel.

In behalf of our company we return to the citizens of Orwell and adjoining towns, and especially to the ladies, who so kindly bestowed upon us their b——s for the relief of our temporal wants and also the blankets so much needed by us. And now in regard to Pic-nics to our —-os, I have only to say that whatever more you may have to bestow upon the glorious cause, for which we have enlisted, bestow it upon the families that are left amongst you, in consequence of our departure; for I know there are some that must suffer, unless they are made the recipients of your bounties. Therefore cause a Soldiers Aid Society to the formed in your townships, whose duty it shall be to visit the different families that are left amongst you without a head to care for their wants, and see that their absolute necessities are provided for, in every particular. We are well enough off, and better without your sweet meats then with them. Come and see us—all of you, and share our fare, knowing that you will be received by us with the greatest pleasure. Come one, come all, as you may think best. But don’t forget the poor among you.

   Very Respectfully,

                    A. Bingham, Capt. 6th Cavalry.
