On Wednesday, October 27, Rhonda Silvieus Wright a long time resident of Ashtabula and a graduate of Edgewood High school was speaker at the ACGS meeting held at Geneva Library. October is family history month and Wright spoke about the Silvieus Family History. Wright has been doing genealogy since the early 1990′s, continuing the research of her great grandmother Virginia Warren Silvieus.
Virginia Katherine Warren daughter of Henry and Annie J. Smith Warren was married to Roy Levi Silvieus son of Levi and Ada Smith Silvieus on 18 September 1904. Virginia and Roy had three sons, Glenn I., Lawrence and Melvyn M. Glenn is the father of Ron Silvieus.
From a newspaper article (not dated) Virginia Silvieus was a well known Ashtabula Citizen and successful business women, operating a florist shop for fifty years and a greenhouse, growing all her own flowers with the exception of roses and carnations. Her florist shops were on Main Avenue and the greenhouse was on State Road until 1932 at which time it moved to North Ridge East.
Wright displayed family photos of ancestors, one being a tin type of Ellius Silvieus born in Germany in 1803. Photos of Virginia’s businesses the florist shops and the greenhouse. She also brought scrapbooks and correspondence.
The next ACGS meeting will be the Board meeting held on November 3 at 1:00 P.M. at the Geneva Library. The next program meeting is November 17 at 1:00 P.M., speaker will be Dianne Gilbert, Photographing Cemetery Gravestones. The public is always welcome.
